What’s a Geek ?
Je suis d’humeur à me poser des questions et à philosopher autour d’une bière. D’ailleurs, j’ai la preuve de ce que j’avance !
Je suis en Bourgogne cette semaine et j’admets que les soirées sont douces. Rassurez-vous, les journées sont moins paisibles dans mon « algeco » bouillant a tenter de former une personne sur des choses que je suis même pas certain de maîtriser.
Bon, on s’en cogne de ta vie !
En fait, ma question du jour porte sur le « geek« . Cette espèce étrange mais qui compte de plus en plus de spécimens. Dans l’édition 2010, on aura la définition dans les dicos :
geek : n. (mot anglo-amér.) Personne passionnée par les technologies de l’information et de la communication, en partic. Internet
C’est vague quand même je trouve. Parce que le geek est plus complexe que ça. On va pas dire subtile mais pas loin. Etant moi-même geek assumé et qui en fréquente quelques uns, j’ai tendance à vouloir les classer en catégories ou en famille de geek.
Bien sûr, c’est mon point de vue très personnel et pas du tout scientifique. Aucune étude n’est derrière mes conclusions ni aucun fait concret. J’oublie sans doute certaines catégories ou j’en invente mais je m’en tape.
1. Le geek old-school
En général, on retrouve là les geeks de la première heure. C’est un élément assez rare car il est tombé dans le geek il y a une vingtaine d’années. En règle générale, il est nostalgique et préfère les interfaces en lignes de commande. Son premier site perso date de 1987 et est en HTML 1. D’ailleurs, il est d’autant plus rare qu’il était surtout présent sur le chat d’AOL. Aucun risque de la croiser sur facebook, il n’est pas passé au web 2.0.
2. Le geek gamer-hardcore
Celui-là ne bosse pas dans l’informatique mais est capable de passer plus de temps devant son PC (pas de mac là) que n’importe quel être vivant. C’est la catégorie des no-life qui ne voit que rarement la lueur du jour. Donc facilement reconnaissable à son teint blafard et ses cheveux mi-long regraissant trop vite mais presque impossible à débusquer IRL (dans la vraie vie). La plupart du temps, il s’agit d’adolescents un peu rebelles qui finiront par changer de « catégorie geek » quand les hormones deviendront plus insistantes que ce que les hentais ne peuvent calmer.
3. Le geek linuxien
Celui là est un pur et dur. Il recompile son kernel aussi souvent qu’il change de chaussettes. Les simples mots « Micrososf » et « Internet Explorer » peuvent déclencher chez lui une crise d’épilepsie. Son animal de compagnie est un pingouin et il parle leur langue. J’ai déjà essayé, et je comprend pas un traitre mot de ce qu’il peut raconter. Précurseur et défenseur de l’open-source, il n’a jamais dépensé de sous pour autre chose que du hardware. Pour rencontrer des spécimens de cette espèce, allez faire un tour chez les administrateurs réseau et système d’une grande multinationale, y en a forcément un ou deux.
4. Le geek-chic
C’est un peu la dernière sorte de geek qui est apparue. Le geek 2.0, il est hyper-communicant, a 300 amis sur FB et partage ses photos de vacances sur tumblr. Il n’y comprend pas beaucoup plus en informatique que le gamer-hardcore mais il s’en fout, il est sur mac. Il a acheté l’iPhone 3Gs le jour de la sortie et envoie des messages à son Nabaztag (qui est sur le meuble en imitation thèque de chez Ikéa à coté de la télé Samsung). Le geek chic est très branché gadgets, mais faut qu’il y ait le design et la marque. On peut penser au premier coup abord que c’est un geek-riche, mais c’est juste qu’il flambe son salaire dans les gadgets inutiles du moment qu’ils ont le WIFI.
Vous l’aurez bien compris, ce descriptif débile est essentiellement sur le ton de l’humour et de l’auto-dérision. Même si en relisant, je trouve qu’il y a une belle part de vérité dans toutes ces conneries… On m’a souvent dit qu’une femme sommeille en chaque homme.
Finalement, je dirai qu’en chaque homme sommeillent une femme et un geek !
Pour ma part, je suis un peu un mélange de ces styles (un hybride vu que c’est à la mode). En étant un temps soit peu franc je pense être 50% geek chic (mon nabaztag est mon animal de compagnie), 30% old-school (la NES est la meilleur console de tous les temps), 15% linuxien (enfin surtout open source) et 15% gamer (ben quoi, les hentais c’est cool).
Pour ceux qui font bien gaffe, je suis quand même geek à 110% !

Moi je suis pas geek mais geekette et je pense que c’est encore pire et que c’est une espece tres peu developpé lol ! Non sinon je dirai un peu des 4 que tu as présenté ! Je saurai pas trop me definir moi meme !

Moi je dirai geekette couplée à une copine de geek « hardcoregamer linuxien chic old school » oui ça fait un peu beaucoup … Un admin réseaux quoi.
Alors avant chéri j’étais déjà geekette … maintenant je joues même à wow et sans doute prochainement à Aion … (bon nous ne parlerons pas des sims 3 c’est une évidence :p)
Dur de tenir une budget dans un couple de geek !
